Bali Yatra ("Voyage to Bali") is one of Asia's largest open-air trade fairs, held every year on the Mahanadi riverbank in Cuttack to commemorate the thousand-year-old maritime tradition of Odisha's ancient Sadhaba merchants who sailed to Bali, Java, Sumatra and Sri Lanka for trade. The week-plus fair opens on Kartik Purnima with the Boita Bandana ritual, followed by cultural performances, government pavilions representing Odisha's 30 districts, handicraft and textile stalls, food courts and amusement rides.
