Chandni Chowk Chandi Medha — Durga Puja

A roughly 200-year-old Durga Puja tradition at Cuttack's Chandni Chowk, tracing back to 1817 when the Bengali Dutta family began worshipping a clay idol at the Asta Sambhu temple; by the late 19th century ten neighbouring "sahis" joined in, and a dedicated Puja Committee has run the celebration for about 70 years. Famed across Odisha's "Silver City" for its Chandi Medha, an elaborate silver-filigree backdrop the committee helped pioneer roughly 50 years ago, the idols here have softer, rounder faces distinct from Bengali or Bhubaneswar styles.
