Choudhury Bazar Chandi Medha — Durga Puja

Choudhury Bazar's Puja Mandap holds a landmark place in Cuttack's "Silver City" Durga Puja tradition — it unveiled the city's very first Chandi Medha, a silver-filigree tableau backdrop for the goddess, in 1956, and pioneered adding gold ornaments to the display in 1990, since renowned for its "Suna Medha" (gold-adorned deities). Skilled tarakasi filigree artisans, some from Cuttack's Sheikh Bazar, spend months preparing the intricate silver and gold work each year; the 2025 edition featured roughly 35kg of gold alongside a 2.5-quintal silver medha. The pandal draws large crowds through the festival to view the gleaming backdrop, cultural programs and evening illumination that mark Cuttack's citywide Puja.
