Girgaoncha Raja Ganeshotsav 2026

The Nikadwari Lane Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandal, founded in 1928, brings its beloved "Girgaoncha Raja" - also called Raja Paryavarnacha (King of the Environment) for pioneering Mumbai's eco-friendly Ganpati movement - to Girgaon for its landmark 99th year. The mandal's 21-foot idol, sculpted from natural shaddu clay rather than Plaster of Paris, was recognised in 2024 as the tallest natural-clay Ganesha idol in the city. Devotees throng Kotachiwadi and Ambewadi lanes through the ten-day festival for daily aarti, cultural programmes and the immersion procession on Anant Chaturdashi, making it one of South Mumbai's most historic and environmentally conscious Ganesh celebrations.
