Bandra Fair (Mount Mary Fair) 2026

Every September since the Portuguese-era chapel first stood atop Bandra's hill, the Basilica of Our Lady of the Mount celebrates the Nativity of Mother Mary with the Bandra Fair - one of Mumbai's oldest and most beloved carnivals, drawing pilgrims and visitors of every faith. Legend holds that a Koli fisherman recovered the original statue of Mother Mary from the Arabian Sea sometime between 1700 and 1760, and the present basilica traces to a 1761 rebuild after the earlier chapel was destroyed. The fair opens on the Sunday after 8 September with a full day of feast masses at the Basilica, then runs for eight to ten days along Mount Mary Road and the surrounding lanes, filled with stalls selling sweets, toys, wax candle offerings and street food, alongside amusement rides, games and live music that turn the hillside into a genuinely cross-community carnival.
