Sheikh Bazar Chandi Medha – Durga Puja

Sheikh Bazar's Durga Puja Mandap traces back to 1875, when the Sur family — Bengali settlers in Cuttack — first worshipped Hara-Parbati here, moving to Goddess Durga worship in 1902 in the Bengali tradition, making it one of the city's oldest continuously-run pujas. Following Choudhury Bazar's lead, the committee was among the earliest to adopt a silver-filigree chandi medha backdrop, and today the pandal is best known for its elaborate illumination — a canopy of tiny dancing lights lining the approach and dressing the pandal itself, drawing repeat visitors back each evening for the aarti.
