Navarathri Sangeetholsavam 2026

A classical Carnatic music festival with over 200 years of continuous tradition, instituted by the composer-king Swathi Thirunal Rama Varma of erstwhile Travancore. Held annually at the historic Navarathri Mandapam beside the Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple, it runs nine nights of concerts in which leading vocalists perform Swathi Thirunal's own Navarathri Kritis in a strict rotation of ragas. Performances take place in a soot-blackened, oil-lamp-lit hall built for natural acoustics -- earthen pots of varying sizes are suspended from the ceiling to shape the sound -- and are accompanied only by traditional instruments, with no applause during recitals, preserving the temple-hall listening etiquette of the original royal court.
